Subway eat Fresh?

So as many of you have already heard, Subway has been using a chemical ingredient, called azodicarbonamide. This has been used “as a bleaching agent”and for elasticity. The petition even states that this chemical  is also used to make yoga mats and shoe rubber, which scares the hell out of me!

Note: The petition noted that Subway doesn’t use the ingredient in its breads in Europe, Australia or other parts of the world. So why is it used here?

For all Subway lovers, this is not to tell you not to eat Subway at all anymore although it is very scary! This is to make you aware of what is happening and to make you cautious about the possibilities and dangers out there.

So if you can’t live without Subway, like I sort of can’t, please wait until you know for sure this chemical has been removed and this case has been resolved as promised by Subway.

Keep in mind, this world is scary and you should trust nothing you eat these days.

SLEEP MORE: LIVE LONGER!

If you don’t want to listen to your parents, listen to your doctors!

Lack of sleep is unhealthy for your body and your brain.

As doctor Lee describes, sleep deprivation can cause drastic long-term effects such as cardiovascular disease, increase risk of car accidents, work performance errors, cognitive abilities, more fatigue during the day, and obesity.

Dr. Jean-Philippe Chaput, an obesity specialist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, said there is a strong link between sleep and body weight. According to him, comparing to people who sleep more, those who sleep less tend to eat more and be less active.

Chaput said:

adults are encouraged to sleep between seven to eight hours a night, while children are encouraged to sleep for 10 hours in order to get a full rest.

Frozen Fruits & Vegetables Bad? WRONG!

Many have the impression and belief that frozen fruits and vegetables lose their nutrients once frozen and that having fruits and vegetables *fresh* is MUCH BETTER. I have something for you, that is not true. I have been on your side of the door and I wouldn`t believe how frozen may be more nutritional, however after careful research, it is true! I am not saying frozen is better in all cases, but they can both be as nutritional, if not better.

Frozen may be more healthy than some of the fresh produce sold in supermarkets, although not ­always the case, but check this out:

Fruits and vegetables chosen for freezing are often processed at their peak ripeness, a time when they are most packed with nutrients. Whereas, freshly chosen fruits and vegetables are typically picked before they are ripe, destined to be shipped to supermarkets around the country. This gives them less time to develop all the proper vitamins and minerals. Not to mention, they are left uneaten for the period that they must travel and stay on the shelves for however long until purchased from consumers, then in the consumer`s fridge until actually eaten. In addition, during the travel, fresh fruits and vegetables are exposed to variable temperatures such as heat and light, which degrade some nutrients, especially water-soluble vitamins like B and C.This process almost makes us question how much nutrients are the fresh produces actually offering to our bodies. This is not to say that frozen offers the ultimate nutrient, as the first step to freezing the vegetables and fruits is blanching them in hot water or steaming them. This is done in order to remove all bacteria and to keep away food-degrading enzymes; this then, as well, causes nutrients like vitamin C and Vitamin B to degrade. So as fresh produce, it does lose seldom vitamins, however once frozen, it then locks all nutrients left inside until eaten. However, note that with frozen produce you may still lose more of its nutritive content when reheating, so in order to maintain the most nutrients in frozen produce, reheating in a microwave or steaming is better than boiling, that way you keep the produce as healthful as possible.

So, after this descriptive explanation about FROZEN VS. FRESH, I will leave you to make your own decision. But keep in mind, frozen fruits and vegetables lose nutrients, just as Fresh produce does (through Vitamin B and C), however they still keep more nutrients then Fresh fruits all together, as they are frozen as soon as ready.

Now, when you go to the supermarket to buy *fresh* fruits and vegetables, and as the supermarket tries to convince you that these fruits have *just been picked* with the deceiving mist spray and colouring, you will remember that in reality, these fruits and vegetables have been in storage for a month or more…

So this is all to say that frozen can in fact be nutritionally comparable to ‘fresh’ produce, if not better, contrary to the beliefs out there.

Be sure to eat between five to nine servings of fruit and vegetables per day. Note that a serving is considered to be half cup of sliced fruit or vegetables, and for leafy greens a serving is one full cup.

Eggs: Handle with Care

Eggs provide great nutrients, that’s assuring they are not poisonous.

Eggs can sometimes be contaminated with a bacteria called Salmonella, or other. It is important therefore to be wary of the eggs we are picking up and how to properly handle them.

Here are some of the useful  tips:

– Choose refrigerated eggs with clean a and uncracked shells.
– Pick up the eggs at the end of your shopping trip to keep them cold.
– Make sure eggs are graded Canada A with the maple leaf symbol.
– Alwsys keep your eggs cold
– Dont crack the shell until ready to use
– Eggs should never be kept in room temperature for more than two hours.
– Wash thoroughly with warm water and soap all materials used for handling raw eggs

Did you know?
Cookie dough and cake batters made with raw eggs could contain Salmonella and should not be eaten until they are cooked thoroughly.

Autism: Possible Prevention?

So studies have been progressing to show Autism in detail and how some experiments in mice have proven that there is indeed a hormone, called Bumetanide, released during labor that prevents hyperactive brain cell firing which begins the process of autism.

Trials in Europe have in fact shown that this drug has diminished the autism symptoms in 60 children aged 3 to 11.

Further testing must be done however it is a simple hope that autism may be helped and/or prevented.

E-Cigarettes: No Better Than Cigarettes

Many believe E-Cigarettes are an alternative to safe/healthy smoking. Wrong! Check out this article showing how detrimental these electronic cigarettes can be.

AcroMax shows how these cigarettes are being exposed to children and in turn harming their bodies. This alternative exposes people to so much nicotine contrary to what is believed.

In fact the concentrated and flavored cartridges inside these E-Cigarettes contain enough nicotine to equal about two packs of cigarettes.

Children are exposed to this through not only swallowing but also through exposure to the skin and accidental spilling of the liquid which is very easy.

This all to say that the *alternative* to cigarettes that was believed to be is false and even more problematic. This is all poison and we must be careful.
