STAY HAPPY!

happy.jpg

Happiness is a drug, actually, it is. Hormones is what keeps you happy, it is what drives your happiness. I workout to be happy, I eat healthy to be happy, I live Love Laugh, to be happy. Some may ask why I work out so much, why I am shall we say ¨Addicted¨.

Simple. Happy Hormones:

Dopamine: Hormone that drives brain reward system which drives well being. Doing a good job and getting rewarded for it. Seeking pleasure seeking behaviour will satisfy this too. Music is a great way to heighten your dopamine levels.

Serotonin: Hormone for mood-boosting neurotransmitters. Most effective/natural method is Exercise. Carbs are another great way to boost serotonin, and it is in fact this reason that your body craves Carbs when you are depressed or low. It is the body’s natural way of seeking self help. Indulging in good carbs like quinoa and whole grain is one thing, but bad carbs, that can just ruin the happiness cycle, and lead the body into another struggle that may deteriorate your happiness.

Oxytocin: This is the Love hormone, where spending time with loved ones and being good and kind to others stimulated happiness.

Estrogen: This hormone helps form serotonin and protects you from anxiety and mood imbalance. For women, estrogen decreases this hormone. Moreover, smoking and over exercising can also decrease it.

Progesterone: Like Estrogen, this hormone helps prevent mood imbalance and anxiety. Lack of Progesterone can be instigated with high stress and unhealthy food.

Finally, to Stay Healthy and Happy, Increase your Oxytocin by doing things that bring you pleasure and cuddles. Increase your estrogen levels with things that bring your stress level down such as yoga, meditation, and more. Keep your progesterone levels up, always eat well and exercising.

Stay Healthy, Stay Active, Stay Lovable, Stay Happy!

Consistency and Weight Loss

weightlossLosing weight is a life long plan that many of us go through on a daily, weekly, monthly, yearly basis… Some struggle more than others, some have more of a problem, some are just overweight, others just want to keep healthy, some want to keep fit. Losing weight, there is no easy answer. It is never just a quick fix. Losing weight is long term process that you need to maintain and keep consistent.

Yes, doing the Bernstein diet can cause you to become slimmer, the no carb diet can help you shed some weight, Ketos lifestyle (no carb no sugar), Isagenix (shakes and low calories), juice cleanses, etc. I can name you so many diets out there and you can have many thoughts and opinions on them… Heck, I have my own opinions… But what is the best diets? A Healthy one. What is a healthy one? It is one that is consistent and can be continued for a long long period of time if not always.

Dr Emily Feig says:

It seems that developing stable, repeatable behaviours related to food intake and weight loss early on in a weight control programme is really important for maintaining changes over the long term.

So, settle on a ‘diet’ that you can maintain for years, and not just weeks, not just months, settle on a health plan that will make you feel good about yourself day in day out. Don’t make drastic choices, shocking your body will only shock its functions, hence messing your metabolism and spiking up and down. The ONLY diet is a CONSISTENT diet. Shedding a pound a week may seem disappointing, but trust when I say, that shedding 5 a week is just not realistic for the long run. Stay healthy, make Doable choices, take your time, because patience is key when trying to alter your body. You need to slowly activate your body, you need to slowly grow into it, you need to slowly speed up your metabolism, because that is ultimately what will make you lose your extra weight, and keep it off.

I won’t stress enough, that exercise is essential for a healthy lifestyle and is key to the most ideal weight loss diets.
