A really good friend of mine sent me this video and told me I was the Root in her Tree, so I watched this video and understood the beauty of friendships and love. Her love was real; some love are temporary and others are real. I really can’t describe this video any better than ‘Madea’. So please watch this and reassess your relationships.

 

Don’t Compare, Admire to Inspiration!

compare2As humans, we all have that instinct to compare ourselves to others and feel crappy about ourselves. Truth is, each of us is Unique and we should embrace that notion that we are not all the same, and we each hold a Special Compound that is US.

When you look at someone else, envy, compare, wish you were them.,.. stop and think, You are Unique, and with your good and bad qualities, you are an entity, you are your own person.

Admiration is beautiful, jealousy is not. Seeking a Role model is beautiful but bitterness is ugly.

I hope you woke up today, saw the sun, and thought to yourself:

I have been blessed with another day of life and I will appreciate it and grow better and stronger.

What I want from you to be aware of today is that we are all different and though sometimes someone else’s life seems better and healthier than ours, it really may not be. We are humans and we always want others to see what is socially correct and positive. Sometimes that may make you an optimist, other times it is because you want to hide your discontent with life and your lack of purpose and will to change it.

Don’t judge life by what you see, you really don’t know what goes on behind closed doors. So, focus on your inner peace and your outer joy. Be happy with what you have, and strive to trump what you do not have.

They say trust your elders, I saw their right. Experience is everything in life. Learn from other’s mistakes, you don’t always need to make them yourself, and you know what, when it comes to these words of wisdom, you really don’t want to make them yourself because that will be a life full of regrets. You don’t want to wake up at 60 saying What did I do to My life? Gosh, do I regret my life. You don’t want that, it is scary.

Were You Dealt a Bad Hand?

I was listening to this video while driving to work in the morning, and found myself dumbfounded with how right this guy is.

First of All. We have grown up in a society where things are just given to us, we don’t work for things, life has been given to us, sadly for some of us, our parents baby us and we end up growing older feeling that we will get what we want, but YOU NEED TO WORK FOR IT. Most of us try to work for something and as soon as we notice it is taking a lot of work, we stop and move to the next thing, but why can’t we live with purpose?

Second of All. Technology and how it has ruined us. Can we sit on a table without our phones beside us on the table? Can we wake up without looking if someone LIKED our photos on Facebook?

CAN YOU CHANGE IN 2017? STOP LIVING OFF YOUR PHONE!

I know that the phone is one of my Resolutions for 2017. I am a VICTIM of this non sense and waste of life.

I hate the phone.. I sometimes sit with my friends at a restaurant and I might as well be sitting alone. Phones are evil if you ask me, they used to be for the sole purpose of safety and conversation, however when you are safe and conversing with someone, why do you need to waste your time on the phone?

Socialising is no longer fun. You sometimes go out with a group of people and more than half of them are on the phone, Social Media is one of the culprits. HOW IS THAT QUALITY TIME? Why are you even meeting? What about when you are out with a friend and all they do is “text” someone else, that is not even there; it is clear that you are not as important, you are not as interesting, you might as well not be there.

If you are sitting at dinner with your friends and you are texting someone who is not there, that is a problem!

I hate phones, how would a simple outing go without phones? God Forbid, you get their full attention and you actually have a decent conversation, a decent time. Wake up, you are living in a society where you rather talk to an object than talk to a person.

Third of All. Instant gratification is a problem these days, people have no patience to wait for things anymore. This generation is problematic. People have no time to find love, to accomplish something, to finding a fulfilment in their life.

Short on Time? I’ve Got Your Breakfast!

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and you must have heard this many times, just as the saying, An apple a day keeps the doctor away. It is True, Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is what makes you have a bad day or a good day. It is what makes you have an energetic workout or a bad/no workout. It is also what speeds up your metabolism or slows it down.

Life is all about the good and the bad, and skipping breakfast is one of those bads.

So, if you have no time, you feel rushed, you can’t even imagine how you can wake up so early to make breakfast. I have got the link for you.

My personal favourite is the  Savory Oatmeal With an Egg.

But as far as an easy go. I usually keep some toast at work and avocado, I would prep some boiled eggs for few days and when at work, put a peace of toast in the toaster, mash my avocado and add boiled egg on top with a touch of black pepper.

There is overnight oatmeal which is always a go. making quiche for the week or breakfast muffins is always a good match for those literally unable to make breakfast in the morning.

YOUR OPTIONS ARE HUGE, Don’t skip breakfast, it is too important.

5 Ways To Tell If You Need A Career Change, what a great article today.
A friend of mine inspired me to write this, she has been struck with a life decision that can change her whole entire life, but you know what, there is nothing wrong with being scared, it makes you human. Happiness, it is a big factor in your wellness and in your health, and you must always put that first.We have all been through troubled times where we doubt, we question, we need better answers….Do you need a career change? Are you happy with what you are doing? Are you depleted and over it?

I’m 36 and work in a mid-level corporate role.  I know I don’t like my work (and haven’t liked it for more than 5 years or so), and things are not going great at the company, but it pays very well, has good benefits and there are some things that are OK about it (mostly that it pays a regular paycheck that feels “secure”).  I was promoted recently too, but still I agonize daily whether I should change careers or just leave it alone and stick with it.  How can you tell if you should change careers or not? 

Should I stay or should I quit?
Here are five ways to tell if you NEED something new.
1. You are chronically worn out, exhausted and depleted: if you get home and your body is broken down and cannot think of doing anything else, you have depleted yourself to the point of exhaustion.
Your body tells you what your lips cannot.
2. Your skills, responsibilities, and tasks are not you at all: Do you care about what you are doing? Is it YOU? Do you have what you do, find it useless or worthless? Do you see yourself wanting to make a bigger difference? You may really be in the wrong field.
3. You’ve come to the point where your salary no longer makes up for the boredom and emptiness you feel: The money can make you *happy* for so long, but are you over it? Is material no longer satisfying you? Sometimes, making less money can make you much happier than making more, and you need to make that decision. Is the money keeping you stuck in your position?
Hang on here – I have this money, but I hate how I spend my life making it.
4. Despite all the “right” choices you made in your career, the outcome feels very wrong:  You have worked so hard to be where you are, but you HATE where you landed. Yes, that is so possible and you know, you need to be brave enough to acknowledge that. you need to know when what you believed was for you, is NOT YOU AT ALL, and that is totally fine. Life is not always what we seem it to be, and this is what life is all about, change, new, experience, learning.
5. You have the irrepressible feeling that your talents and abilities could/should be used in a totally different (more creative and impactful) way: If you are thinking, there is more to life than what you are doing, then there very much may be. Listen to your gut, don’t lie to yourself.
There’s another way to live and work, even though you can’t see it yet.
So, you have been given a quick glimpse of reality. Life, career, happiness, they all need to intertwine, you cannot be happy if you hate what you do 8 or more hours of your day. Working out is no longer to get skinnier or to workout that ice cream, it really becomes your identity, your social guru, you should try it. There are MANY locations, you just need to pick.

3. DOUVRIS Martial Arts // Multiple Locations

This is a new one for me, though I have been to 100% Martial Arts which is amazing, with highly trained instructors and a love for the dojo. Bill Gatchell, the founder and Head Master of this amazing place and his team will leave you sweating and in shape, let alone teach you to defend yourself. I think Martial Arts is an amazing talent and an amazing workout that benefits more than your body, but your mind and your self-confidence.

4. iNSiDE Out STUDiO barre // 1416 Wellington Street West

I have never tried this studio, but I believe strongly that it is what it claims to be, toning you inside out, and these barre classes with combination of strength training, yoga, pilates and a ballet barre will definitely do the job to kick your butt.

5. Ottawa Pole Fitness // 1066 Somerset Street West

FUN right? I have been meaning to try this fitness class for a while and man do I believe this gets you fit, I mean you must have that strength to be able to do what these dancers do. Let’s face it, we all want to feel hot while getting that hot BOD. So let’s try this out.

6. Pure Yoga Ottawa // Multiple Locations

PURE is my heaven, I love this Yoga spot, and yes I have tried a few Studios but PURE has by far been the Purest and Best, especially for a Fitness freak like me. I love the burn, I love the heat, I love the power. PURE YOGA has it all for you, and you should really try it. I have been to YogaTown Studio and it is also amazing and worth a try.

7. Wheelhouse Cycle Inc. // 1279 Wellington Street West

O.M.G. What FUN, what BURN, what FITNESS. I was recently introduced to Wheelhouse and DAMN did I love it. So much fun, with Music, Sweat, Dancing, and Friends. GO TRY THIS RIGHT AWAY, you are missing out. It really is unreal, you won’t imagine what a full body workout that is. It might be your next best thing.

So ………… All this to show, WORKING OUT CAN BE SO FUN, it is not a chore, it is not to drag yourself to the gym, you just need to try something new, remember, you just might LOVE IT.

In reality, when making eggs, many throw away the egg yolk and make egg whites, but truly, if you’re going to throw out anything, it”s actually the white, because the actually nutrition is in the middle.

I am guilty too, don’t worry. For the longest time, I have been minimising my yolk intake drastically to stay away from the demons I believed the Yolks had but boy was I ever wrong. That is not to say I will be abusing egg yolks from hereon, I mean all healthy things in fair consumption make sense.

1. Cut the Sugar: Sugar spikes your insulin. Avoid Processed food too, it is filled with sugar. Instead, have a high protein and vegetables vegetable diet.  The protein helps build muscle and veggies are carbohydrates low on the glycemic index (GI), they are more slowly digested, absorbed and metabolised, cause a lower and slower rise in blood glucose and, therefore lower insulin levels. Other good carbs are brown rice, sweet potatoes and quinoa as they are slow digesting carbs with low GI.

2. Allow yourself Cheat Meals: Having a cheat meal once a week is allowed if you take care of your body and treat it well. Your healthy lifestyle can afford it, but note that this rule only works if you’re working out.

3. Schedule a Fat Burning Workout Routine: Doing High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a great way to shed extra weight as this exercise gets your heart rate to go through the roof for about a short period then allows it to rest and repeats, which  increases your heart rate in intervals. Hanging out together is never an impediment as being healthy and staying fit is a lifestyle, and we both live by that. Friends that train together, stay together, right?! Skipping is Fattening

Loosing weight is a struggle. Yes, I know. Most of us have gone through it at least once in our life; unless, of course, genes are in your favour. I, myself, have been a victim of this struggle. Trying everything to loose the extra pounds that are unwelcome. Skipping meals is a common one that some try in hopes of loosing that extra fat.

DO NOT DO THAT! Yes, I am yelling at you!

Sure, many of us heard that lowering calorie intake in your day can help you lose weight but it is not meant to be lowered by removing your essential meals. Losing weight is meant to be healthy. Skipping meals only starves you which in turn promotes fat storage as it deprives the body of essential nutrients and leads to a severe drop in insulin, causing a variety of metabolic issues in the long run. Sure you may feel slimmer for the day as you skip that meal, however as soon as you replenish that ‘thirst’, you will regain it even fattier. Restricting your body and skipping meals lead you to experience a higher activation of genes that lead to storage of fatty molecules and plumper fat cells, and predominantly around your midsection.

A recent study conducted at Ohio State University has revealed that skipping meals not only leads to abdominal weight gain, but it can also lead to the development of insulin resistance in the liver … A similar study conducted at the Oregon Research Institute (ORI) found that skipping meals or restricting the number of calories you consume each day can actually make unhealthy food more attractive.

Essentially, if you are exerting energy without replenishing it, your body will pick up the glucose it finds and will store it, causing more fat cells and leading to invigorated fat tissue.

Moral of the story is: Do NOT skip meals, but simply have smaller healthier meals throughout the day and you will find yourself having better results and more weight loss.
