STAY HAPPY!

happy.jpg

Happiness is a drug, actually, it is. Hormones is what keeps you happy, it is what drives your happiness. I workout to be happy, I eat healthy to be happy, I live Love Laugh, to be happy. Some may ask why I work out so much, why I am shall we say ¨Addicted¨.

Simple. Happy Hormones:

Dopamine: Hormone that drives brain reward system which drives well being. Doing a good job and getting rewarded for it. Seeking pleasure seeking behaviour will satisfy this too. Music is a great way to heighten your dopamine levels.

Serotonin: Hormone for mood-boosting neurotransmitters. Most effective/natural method is Exercise. Carbs are another great way to boost serotonin, and it is in fact this reason that your body craves Carbs when you are depressed or low. It is the body’s natural way of seeking self help. Indulging in good carbs like quinoa and whole grain is one thing, but bad carbs, that can just ruin the happiness cycle, and lead the body into another struggle that may deteriorate your happiness.

Oxytocin: This is the Love hormone, where spending time with loved ones and being good and kind to others stimulated happiness.

Estrogen: This hormone helps form serotonin and protects you from anxiety and mood imbalance. For women, estrogen decreases this hormone. Moreover, smoking and over exercising can also decrease it.

Progesterone: Like Estrogen, this hormone helps prevent mood imbalance and anxiety. Lack of Progesterone can be instigated with high stress and unhealthy food.

Finally, to Stay Healthy and Happy, Increase your Oxytocin by doing things that bring you pleasure and cuddles. Increase your estrogen levels with things that bring your stress level down such as yoga, meditation, and more. Keep your progesterone levels up, always eat well and exercising.

Stay Healthy, Stay Active, Stay Lovable, Stay Happy!

Habits of A Productive Life

I woke up today, and reality hit me hard.

Productivity… Can you really achieve it to your full potential?

In this day in age, Heck NO!

Either you wake up to work, to social events with friends, to a bad day, or maybe even wake up in the middle of the day after a long night of partying, followed by a long morning of sleeping in and doing NOTHING.

So yes, Life has quite become useless. Wake up, go to work, come home or go out, then sleep.

Where did you do something to mark a difference in your life? In other people’s lives?

Have you made a difference today? Will you make a difference? Matter is that Probably not.

Why NOT?

Wake up, TURN OFF YOUR SCREENS, yes I mean all of them, Cell phone, TV, laptop, any distraction that is NOT helping you be productive.

I woke up today, went on the news to see if anything is new and stumbled into an article that read my mind, an article that, like anyone else, might just turn on a light bulb for today and maybe the next week, but as humans, it will go away, the cycle will start over and we will move forward.

Sad right? Sucks, Right? Right! And this is the dilemma I fall into.

I know I need a change, do you?

Make it happen for yourself, start a day in the week, for now, to just have YOU TIME, I have that, it’s been great, however I need more now.

Try it, start somewhere, and move forward, become the best you can be.

What is the meaning of life? I ask myself that question daily, and still no answer.

Let’s find our own meaning, because honestly, the whole meaning of life will never be achieved, not in our day of age, maybe not ever.

Listening to music, drinking my glass of wine, I sit here try to write this blog post, and it saddens me. What is the purpose of our days, can you be truly happy? Can you achieve your full potential? Can you become a person who wakes up every morning in full satisfaction with your life progress? I haven’t seen it yet.

So I will leave you thinking on this day. Your way, is it working for you? Are you happy? Are you productive? If not, does it even bother you?

I sit here, and you should already know my answer to all these questions.

I can go on and on about this topic because it’s very important to me, but, I will leave you with this:

Four Important Personal Habits for a More Productive Life

Seriously read the article right above, and learn how to be more productive; if you care, that is.

I want to try them, try them with me and let’s do it together.

The Brain Does What The Body Tells It To Do!

Exercise is my life… Exercise is my friend… Exercise is my cure…

When I am sad, I exercise…

When I am happy, I exercise…

When I want happiness, I exercise…

Exercising… It is the answer to all my life’s problems.

Why? Let’s take a look at it more deeply.

What triggers happiness in our brain when we exercise?

What triggers happiness in our brain when we exercise? Let’s take a look!

Endorphins are released when we exercise. More precisely,

If you start exercising, your brain recognizes this as a moment of stress. As your heart pressure increases, the brain thinks you are either fighting the enemy or fleeing from it. To protect yourself and your brain from stress, you release a protein called BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor). This BDNF has a protective and also reparative element to your memory neurons and acts as a reset switch. That’s why we often feel so at ease and things are clear after exercising and eventually happy.

brains

Moreover, a small amount of exercise is needed to reach a “happy place” in your day, so don’t get discouraged by the thought of needing to exercise for a long time. Exercise can be as little as 20 minutes and you will feel your brain sending your body signals of euphoria.

Protein Protein Protein Shake or NOT!

I am going crazy!

I have been researching on and on about Protein powder, is it good? is it bad?

Good Question? Well… it’s just not a good answer.

I have been training quite a lot lately and find I need more protein, for recovery, for energy, for feeling great-ER!

Protein Supplements, some sources disapprove it, and others say it’s okay. Which is the correct one? I still don’t know.

Here are some sources, and you can be your own judge:

http://www.eatingwell.com/food_news_origins/green_sustainable/best_meat_worst_meat_the_best_protein_choices (my personal favorite)

However, my safest and healthiest matter I found was by following a natural Protein option, that is by foods, such as:

Great Grains: Oats, Spelt, Quinoa, Amaranth, Wheat germ

Protein-Packed Fruits and Snacks: Dried apricot, Sun dried tomatoes, Edamame, Pumpkin and squash seeds, Chia seeds, Walnuts, Almonds and almond butter, Pistachios

Satisfying Seafood: Ocean trout, Salted cod, Sockeye salmon

Meat (and Tofu) Alternatives: Seitan, Tempeh

See http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/20-surprisingly-good-sources-vegetarian-protein for details.

So after continuous research, I am still undecided if Protein Powders are a healthy choice, but I will keep you updated if I find the answer.

As for now, my only advise is try to get your protein as naturally as possible.

Keep in mind, Fish oil is high protein intake.

Aware: Girls in Sports, Serious Knee injuries

I started become more concerned with my knees as I got into soccer full time. I noticed my body falling apart the past year as I do more sports and exercise, especially my knee. As I started seeing my knees deteriorating and causing me pain, I began to notice that a high percent of girls in soccer had an injury, so I decided to do some research. I began worrying about arthritis until I got a hold of this article demonstrating that girls in Sports, they need to worry about their knees as they are much more likely than guys to get injured.

Here is some reasons why…

The risk goes up for girls once they hit age 12 or 13 and for boys around age 14 or 15. Why? Puberty. This is the time when kids grow faster and their bodies can’t always keep up, which is especially true in the leg’s tibia and femur bones. For girls, hormones also make the ligaments more lax. In boys, the testosterone surge actually helps them increase muscular power and control, allowing them to handle the rapid skeletal growth better.

Know… sports that cause the most of these injuries are ones like soccer, gymnastic, volleyball. and basketball, cheer leading and dance, all of which makes you stop suddenly and turn in different directions.

So what now?

You must begin doing exercises that are going to strengthen the hips, quads, hamstrings and glutes and build core strength, such as Pilates and more.

Some exercises can be found in the following video:

Watch this It’s serious:

If you are doing the same sport all year, you are stressing these muscles and not strengthening the others.

In my case, I play soccer all year long, even more intensely in the summer, the period which I noticed I felt the most pain.

Remember… especially for all you girls out there, take this seriously or you might end up not being able to play anything in the end.

Rest, change activities, and do exercise…

I should take my own advice…
