Depression: risk in the womb

Studies have shown that depression starts at birth. It seems that an adolescent is more likely to suffer depression if the mother was depressed while pregnant. The child is 1.3 times more likely to go through depression at adolescence if the mother was depressed while pregnant with him or her.

Doctors therefore advise women to get treated before getting pregnant or if diagnosed after pregnant, to get treated as it is healthier for the child and the mother.

So if you find yourself depressed, get treated before and while pregnant because you are not only harming yourself your child’s future.
